Simple lines. A lot of possibility.
A flat center panel, surrounded by clean, straight framing. Its quiet geometry lets proportion, color, and grain do the work.

For the detail-minded
The horizontal pieces are rails; the vertical pieces are stiles. Together they frame the recessed center panel. A Shaker door can be paired with inset or overlay construction—the panel being recessed does not make the cabinet itself inset.

See the details in personWood & grain
The cut changes the character. Plain-sawn boards often show cathedral-shaped grain; quarter-sawn oak reveals distinctive ray fleck; rift-sawn oak tends toward straighter grain with less fleck. Compare real samples to see how the wood and finish work together.
Fit & finish
Solid wood responds to humidity, moving mainly across its grain. Frame-and-panel construction allows for that movement. Fine joint lines can become visible in painted wood. Door gaps, finish samples, and the room’s conditions are all worth discussing before the final specification.
Hardware & daily life
Visible or concealed hinges change the look of inset doors. Handles change how a door feels in your hand. Bring a wish list—deep drawers, tray storage, pull-outs, or appliance panels—and ask which details can be built into your project.
